Charging the Battery NOTE: Charge time is longer with the computer turned on. You can leave the battery in the computer for as long as you like. The battery’s internal circuitry prevents the battery from overcharging. When you connect the computer to an electrical outlet or install a battery while the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the computer checks the battery charge and temperature. If necessary, the AC adapter then charges the battery and maintains the battery charge. If the battery is hot from being used in your computer or being in a hot environment, the battery may not charge when you connect the computer to an electrical outlet.

The battery is too hot to start charging if the battery light flashes alternately blue and amber. Disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet and allow the computer and the battery to cool to room temperature, then connect the computer to an electrical outlet to continue charging the battery. For more information about resolving problems with a battery, see “Power Problems” on page 118. Replacing the Battery CAUTION: Using an incompatible battery may increase the risk of fire or explosion. Replace the battery only with a compatible battery purchased from Dell. The battery is designed to work with your Dell computer. Do not use batteries from other computers with your computer.

VMware ESXi Dell Solution Guide

VMware ESXi Dell Solution Guide

Dell™ PowerEdge™ servers enabled with VMware® ESXi represent the next generation of servers designed specifically for virtualization. Through its close partnership with VMware, Dell is able to offer qualified VMware-based virtualization solutions optimized for today’s active data centers. With its BIOS-like footprint, VMware ESXi Server offers a standards-based management solution designed for reduced deployment time, centralized management, and increased security. When coupled with energy efficient Dell PowerEdge servers, you can also take advantage of reduced power and cooling needs, the latest in CPU technologies, reduced server downtime, and greater reliability.

This guide will help you understand the differences between ESXi Server and ESX Server versions of VMware’s Virtual Infrastructure 3 (VI3) products as they are deployed on Dell servers, how to deploy, manage, license, and support your solution, and Dell’s deployment best practices. A deployment best practices checklist is also provided (see “Appendix A: Deployment Best Practices Check List” on page 33).

VMware ESXi Server is sold as an OEM product pre-installed on Dell servers. Because ESXi Server is pre-installed, your server can be deployed within minutes by simply connecting a keyboard, monitor, and mouse, and by enabling basic Ethernet-based connectivity for management traffic; there is no need to configure local storage, install ESX from CD, or configure the server via the service console. With server data center deployments often handled by several technicians and engineers through a formal deployment process, eliminating these steps may save time and simplify IT deployment flows.

Dell™ Latitude™ D630 Quick Reference Guide

Dell™ Latitude™ D630 Quick Reference Guide

For optimal computer performance and to help preserve BIOS settings, operate your Dell™ portable computer with the main battery installed at all times. One battery is supplied as standard equipment in the battery bay.

NOTE:
Because the battery may not be fully charged, use the AC adapter to connect your new computer to an electrical outlet the first time you use the computer. For best results, operate the computer with the AC adapter until the battery is fully charged. To view battery charge status, click Start→ Settings→ Control Panel→ Power Options→ Power Meter.

NOTE:
Battery operating time (the time the battery can hold a charge) decreases over time. Depending on how often the battery is used and the conditions under which it is used, you may need to purchase a new battery during the life of your computer.

Battery operating time varies depending on operating conditions. You can install an optional second battery in the media bay to significantly increase operating time. Operating time is significantly reduced when you perform operations including, but not limited to, the following:
• Using optical drives
• Using wireless communications devices, PC Cards, ExpressCards, media memory cards, or USB devices
• Using high-brightness display settings, 3D screen savers, or other power-intensive programs such as complex 3D graphics applications
• Running the computer in maximum performance mode (see “Configuring Power Management Settings” in your User’s Guide).
