MICRO-AMP Version 2.0 VHF Amplifier Manual

MICRO-AMP Version 2.0 VHF Amplifier Manual

This manual is for the Micro-Amp low power amplifier intended for use with the Micro-Trak APRS transmitters. The amplifier is a transmit-only device, meaning it is not suitable for use with transceivers. The amplifier was designed for low duty cycle operation, and does not have a heat sink suitable for continuous operation. The Micro- Amp is intended only for use only in the Amateur Radio Service.

The Micro-Amp utilizes very few components. The assembly of the PC board should start out with the installation of the two 22 Microfarad chip capacitors. The easiest way to install these devices is to first lightly tin the pads on the top side ground plane (the sides not connected to the traces) place the chip capacitor over the pad. Hold down the chip, and apply your soldering iron to the ground plane side pad. The surface of the pad will melt the solder on the chip, and tack that end down temporarily. Solder the opposite side pad down by heating the pad and capacitor end pad equally, and applying solder. Note that the 22 Mfd capacitors are polarized and must be installed in the correct orientation.

Install the 4700 PF capacitors in the spots as shown on the PCB layout and photo. Note that these are not polarized. Install the 10 Pf capacitor as shown in the circuit board layout and photos. Note that this capacitor is tipped with a black mark, which will distinguish it from the smaller 4700 PF capacitors. Polarity of this part is unimportant. Install the 1N914 or equivalent diode. This diode is for reverse polarity protection. Install the trimmer potentiometer and the three screw power terminal. NOTE: Make sure you point the recesses in the terminal block outward! It will be difficult to wire the unit if you install this part backward.

STEP 1 - Mounting
Locate the SureSine on a surface that is protected from direct sun, high temperatures, corrosive fumes, and water. SureSine may be mounted horizontally on a flat surface (like a table) or vertically (on a wall). Do not install in a confined area where battery gasses can accumulate. Place the SureSine on the surface where it will be mounted and determine where the wires will enter/exit. Be sure there is sufficient bending room for the wires and other auxiliary connections. Verify that the mounting screws will not penetrate wires or other objects located on the opposite side of the surface. With a pencil or pen, mark the mounting hole locations

With a drill and 1/8” (3 mm) bit, drill pilot holes for each of the four mounting screw locations marked on the mounting surface. Place the SureSine onto the surface and align the mounting feet holes with the four pilot holes. Use the included #10 screws to secure the SureSine to the surface.

BB 150 ADCP Technical Manual

BB 150 ADCP Technical Manual

The ADCP emits an acoustic pulse called a PING. Scatterers that float ambiently with the water currents reflect some of the energy from the ping back to the ADCP. The ADCP uses the return signal to calculate a velocity. The energy in this signal is the echo intensity. Echo intensity is sometimes used to determine information about the scatterers.

The velocity calculated from each ping has a statistical uncertainty; however, each ping is an independent sample. The ADCP reduces this statistical uncertainty by averaging a collection of pings. A collection of pings averaged together is an ensemble. The ADCP’s maximum ping rate limits the time required to reduce the statistical uncertainty to acceptable levels.

The ADCP does not measure velocity at a single point; it measures velocities throughout the water column. The ADCP measures velocities from its transducer head to a specified range and divides this range into uniform segments called depth cells (or bins). The collection of depth cells yields a profile. The ADCP produces two profiles, one for velocity and one for echo intensity.

The ADCP calculates velocity data relative to the ADCP. The velocity data has both speed and direction information. If the ADCP is moving, and is within range of the bottom, it can obtain a velocity from returns off the bottom. This is called bottom-tracking. The bottom-track information can be used to calculate the absolute velocity of the water. The ADCP can get absolute direction information from a heading sensor.

Recabinet User’s Manual

Recabinet User’s Manual

Recabinet is a library of convolution impulse responses, and is compatible with a wide variety of convolution impulse response software plugins. These plugins are designed to run in a variety of recording software for PC and Mac. Some of this software is free, and in our testing, is just as good as the paid software for use with Recabinet. If you do not currently have recording software, we recommend Reaper for the PC, and GarageBand for the Mac. Reaper is free to try out, and inexpensive for non-commercial use. GarageBand is included with Macs made in the last few years. If you do not currently have a convolution impulse response plugin, we recommend keFIR for the PC, and LAConvolver for the Mac, both of which are free.

Cabinets and Mics
Recabinet is organized in 3 main folders, each containing a collection of impulse response les for use with a convolution impulse response plugin. For most of these plugins, you will use the “Other Hosts” version. For Altiverb and AxeFX, use the specic versions provided

Each subfolder represents a dierent real-world cabinet (with a silly nickname for legal reasons.)
Cabinets
• “Angora”- Line 6 Vetta 4×12
• “Damien”- Marshall 1936 2×12
• “Ghandi”- Mesa Standard/Oversize 4×12
• “Genzie”- Genz Benz G-Flex ported 2×12
• “Igor”- Krank Krankenstein 4×12
• “Kirby”- Carvin 4×12 British Series
• “Manatee”- Ampeg SVT 8×10 Bass Cabinet (using Ampeg SVT Pro Classic power section)
• “Sterling”- Marshall Hand Wired 4×12 (late 1960s reissue)
• “Trapezoid”- Roland Micro Cube (using native power section)

All 4×12 and 2×12 cabinets were powered using a Randall RT2/50 power amp, loaded with 6L6 and EL34 power tubes. They were sampled using 4 different microphones, listed below:
Microphones
• “57″ - Shure SM57 - industry standard dynamic microphone, the most popular microphone for guitar recording.
• “i5″ - Audix i5 - modern industry standard dynamic microphone, for a full-range, aggressive response.
• “4060″ - Audio Technica 4060 - modern high-SPL condenser microphone, for warm, full-bodied tone.
• “D6″ - Audix D6 - modern kick drum mic, great for getting the low “cabinet rumble”tone as a blend-in with your primary tone.

The “57”and “i5”mics were sampled in 4 different positions (cap, edge, cone, edge45), at 3 depths per position (on the grill, 1/2 inch away, and 1 inch away.) See the Microphone Positioning Diagram for a visual representation. All microphones were sampled using the amazing Universal Audio 2-610 mic preamp, with the exception of the beta “Ghandi” impulses, which were sampled using the stock mic preamps on a Presonus Firepod audio interface.

The reader module comes with a unique combination of long read range, small size, and low power consumption. The reader module has an internal power converter, allowing it to work with a wide range of supply inputs without affecting its performance. Its primary applications are asset management and tracking, and fleet management applications.

The 2.6 EA reader modules are delivered with firmware version 2.xxM. In order to operate an 2.6 EA you will need the following: PC running Windows 98 or higher, CD-ROM drive and one RS-232 serial port. Host software (AWIDs demo software or your own custom software)

MEASURING READ DISTANCE
Make sure you know the tag types. For certain readers and tags, user must also be mindful of the tags orientation and the readers antenna orientation, what mounting surface the tags are designed for and how the tags are supposed to be mounted. Any departure from its intended purpose will drastically affect the readers ability to energize the tag and its read range.

When measuring the readers read range, make sure that the tag is properly oriented to the reader antenna, and for optimum performance, be sure the operators finger is not within three (3) inches of the tags antenna surface.

Transio TCF-90-M/S User Manual

Transio TCF-90-M/S User Manual

The TCF-90 is a compact sized, high-speed, RS-232 to optical fiber converter that extends RS-232 transmission from 15 meters to 5 km (TCF-90-M, multi-mode) or 40 km (TCF-90-S, single-mode), without using external power. The TCF-90 is designed to get power from the attached serial port. A pair of TCF-90 converters can be used to connect two RS-232 serial devices to each other in full duplex transmission mode using optical fiber. Moreover, the TCF-90 isolates the devices from dangerous increases in ground potential, ground loops, and electrical EMI/RFI noise. This greatly reduces RF radiation and susceptibility to electromagnetic radiation to enhance data security.

Installation
Typical Applications
Connecting RS-232 devices to the TCF-90 is easy. The ST-type optical fiber connector is designed especially for data communication applications that transmit data between or within buildings. The TCF-90 can be used for industrial applications and for applications that require secure data transfer.

Port Power Dissipation
When installing an RS-232 port-powered TCF-90 converter, pay attention to the power consumption, RS-232 cable length, and the power provided by the serial port. In general, the TCF-90 gets 70 mW from the power source; a standard COM port on a host PC can provide 70 to 90 mW of power if the TxD, RTS, and DTR lines are connected. Moreover, the RS-232 cable length should be shorter than 15 m (@ 9600 bps) to ensure that less power is lost as the host/device supplies power to the TCF-90. The rest of the supplied power is used for transmitting the optical fiber signal.

Serial Port Power Compatibility
Serial ports can use any of a number of diverse interface chips, but the power provided by the different types of ports is not always the same. In fact, some ports do not supply enough power to activate the TCF-90.

The on-board COM1 and COM2 ports seldom have problems. The table shows the MOXA serial cards and serial-to-Ethernet device servers that can be used as a good power source to drive the TCF-90 when their RTS/DTR signals are connected and in the ON state.
