Toshiba DOCSIS PCX1100U Cable Modem Owner’s Manual

Toshiba DOCSIS PCX1100U Cable Modem Owner’s Manual

The modem provides you with high-speed data communications over the television cable network by following the widely accepted DOCSIS/MCNS standards being developed by the Multimedia Cable Network System (MCNS) consortium. Those standards offer a combination of high performance and interoperability among many of the cable system operators in North America.

How does a cable modem work?
As you know, high and low electrical voltage levels represent digital signals. And how fast these levels can switch and still be transmitted is determined by the “bandwidth” of the transmission system. The pair of wires used in a telephone connection has greatly limited bandwidth, because of their electrical characteristics. So what we do is connect a device called a modem between the computer output and the phone line. The modem generates an electrical wave whose strength and phase change in step with the highs and lows of the computer’s digital output. It’s because of the “smoothness” of the resultant signal that a higher data rate can be transmitted.

A cable modem MOdulates and DEModulates electrical signals in the same sense that the telephone modem does. However, since coaxial cable can carry much higher wave frequencies, cable modems are far more sophisticated. Their internals can include a tuner, a bridge, an encryption/decryption device, an SNMP agent, an Ethernet hub and USB interface. Furthermore, none of the activity caused by these circuits and codes disturbs your regular cable TV reception.

M4-ATX 6-30V Intelligent ATX Power Supply Installation Guide

M4-ATX 6-30V Intelligent ATX Power Supply Installation Guide

Please take a moment and read this manual before you install the M4-ATX in your vehicle. Often times, rushing into installing the unit can result in serious damage to your M4-ATX board, computer and probably your car’s electrical system. Always double check the polarity of your wires with a voltmeter. Avoid using the cigarette plug as a power source, often times the contacts are not capable of delivering high current to your PC.

Thank you for purchasing the M4-ATX power sequencer / vehicle ATX power supply. The M4-ATX was designed to work with a wide variety of main boards ranging from low power to fully fledged Intel, AMD or VIA models.

NOTE: To reset to the M4-ATX settings to the factory defaults (in case changes were made via the USB uplink), simply power off the unit, connect a jumper to JP1 and then power back up. The LED light will start to flash rapidly indicating that the factory defaults were loaded. Don’t forget to Remove jumper when done! Disconnect M4-ATX from battery for at least 10 seconds. Next time when power is applied, M4-ATX will operate from the factory defaults settings.

Power challenges in a Vehicle PC: One of most difficult tasks of operating a PC in a vehicle is power consumption while the computer is OFF. Even when your computer is OFF, it will still consume about 100mA on the 5V rail. When the computer is in the suspend mode, it will consume even more power, because the RAM needs to be powered at all times. No matter how big your battery is, you will eventually drain it if proper actions are not taken.

The M4-ATX is addressing these issues by cutting off the 5VSB rail after a pre-defined amount of time (see jumper chart, HARDOFF). During the HARDOFF if the battery level drops below 11.2V for more than one minute, M4-ATX will shut down and re-activate only when the input voltage is > 12V.

Engine Cranks, under-voltage and over-voltage situations. Another difficult task is maintaining stable power to your PC. While car batteries are rated at 12V, they actually provide voltages in between 7-11V (engine cranks) or as high as 80 volts (load dump). Most of the times, your battery will stay at 13.5V (while car is running) but extra precautions need to take place in order to prevent such situations. M4-ATX can operate as low as 6V and as high as 30V while providing strict regulation on all rails along with input voltage clamping and reverse protection.

PC-lint/FlexeLint 9.0 Manual Excerpts

PC-lint/FlexeLint 9.0 Manual Excerpts

The following are useful for supporting a number of features in a variety of compilers. With some exceptions, they are used mostly to get PC-lint/FlexeLint to ignore some nonstandard constructs accepted by some compilers.

Compilers for embedded systems frequently use the @ notation to specify the location of a variable. A technique to handle this is given in our manual in Section 5.8.2 Compiler Codes in the description of -cwh
. Users have encountered some difficulty with this method when the location is given as a complex expression. We have for this reason added direct support for the @ feature, which consists of ignoring expressions to its right. To enable this, just make sure you are NOT using -cwh
. When we see a ‘@’ we then give a warning (430), which you may suppress with a -e430

_bit is a type that is one bit wide. This needs to be activated with the +rw(_bit) option. It was introduced to support some microcontroller cross-compilers that have a one-bit type.
_gobble is a reserved word that needs to be activated via +rw(_gobble). It causes the next token to be gobbled; i.e., it and the next token are ignored. This is intended to be used with the -d option. See co-kcarm.lnt for examples.
_ignore_init This keyword when activated causes the initializer of a data declaration or the body of a function to be ignored. Cross compilers for embedded systems frequently have declarations that associate addresses with variables. For example, they may have the following declarations.

Handyscope HS3 a Multifunctional PC Measuring Instrument User Manual

Handyscope HS3 a Multifunctional PC Measuring Instrument User Manual

Many technicians investigate electrical signals. Though the measurement may not be electrical, the physical variable is often converted to an electrical signal, with a special transducer. Common transducers are accelerometers, pressure probes, current clamps and temperature probes. The advantages of converting the physical parameters to electrical signals are large, since several instruments for examining electrical signals are available.

The Handyscope HS3 is a two channel, 12 bits, 5, 10, 25 or 50 Msamples/sec measuring instrument. With the acompanying software the Handyscope HS3 can be used as an oscilloscope, a storage oscilloscope, a spectrum analyzer, a true RMS voltmeter or a transient recorder. All instruments measure by sampling the input signals, digitizing the values, process them, save them and display them.

Sampling
When sampling the input signal, samples are taken at certain moments. The frequency at which the samples are taken is called the sampling frequency. By taking a (large) number of samples, the input signal can be reconstructed. In the latter illustration a sine wave signal is sampled with 50 samples. By connecting the adjacent samples, the original signal can be reconstructed. See also the next illustration.

PC–450 User’s Manual

PC–450 User’s Manual

Industrial computers originally used LSTTL circuits. Because many PC components are used in laptop computers, IC manufac- turers are exclusively using CMOS technology. Both TTL and CMOS have failure mechanisms, but they are different. This section describes some of the common failures which are common to all manufacturers of CMOS equipment. However, much of the information has been put in the context of the Micro PC.

Octagon has developed a reliable database of customer-induced, field failures. The average MTBF of Micro PC cards exceeds 11 years, yet there are failures. Most failures have been identified as customer-induced, but there is a small percentage that cannot be identified. As expected, virtually all the failures occur when bringing up the first system. On subsequent systems, the failure rate drops dramatically.
- Approximately 20% of the returned cards are problem-free. These cards, typically, have the wrong jumper settings or the customer has problems with the software. This causes frustration for the customer and incurs a testing charge from Octagon.
- Of the remaining 80% of the cards, 90% of these cards fail due to customer misuse and accident. Customers often cannot pinpoint the cause of the misuse.
- Therefore, 72% of the returned cards are damaged through some type of misuse. Of the remaining 8%, Octagon is unable to determine the cause of the failure and repairs these cards at no charge if they are under warranty.

The most common failures on CPU cards are over voltage of the power supply, static discharge, and damage to the serial and parallel ports. On expansion cards, the most common failures are static discharge, over voltage of inputs, over current of outputs, and misuse of the CMOS circuitry with regards to power supply sequencing. In the case of the video cards, the most common failure is to miswire the card to the flat panel display. Miswiring can damage both the card and an expensive display.

PC 950 Probe Colorimeter User Manual

PC 950 Probe Colorimeter User Manual

The PC 950 probe colorimeter measures the optical transmittance, absorbance, and concentration of liquids. The fiber optic probe allows measurements to be taken directly from containers, and measurements can be made at different wavelengths by changing plug-infilters.

Functions are selected by a front panel keypad, and readings and settings are displayed on an alphanumeric LED display. An RS-232 serial port connection provides data to a remote PC. Two analog output signals drive a strip chart recorder (0.0 V 1.0 V) and/or a 4 mA 20 mA current loop for industrial applications.

Instrument Operation
Before turning on the PC 950, select and install the appropriate filter for the test that will be conducted. Install the fiber optic probe into the lamp and filter holder, making sure the knurled screws are finger-tight to prevent relative motion between fiber optic and the instrument.
ON/OFF
Press the O N key to start. When the PC 950 is first turned on, it displays PC 950 , followed by the firmware revision, and then enters the Transmittance mode and autozeroes itself. It is now ready for operation; when operation is complete, turn the PC 950 off by pressing OFF.

TRANSMITTANCE OPERATION
Transmittance displays the optical transmittance of a measured sample from 0.0 to 100.0. The transmittance display format is T 100.0 . Totake a reading, zero the instrument to 100% T (0.0 A) by placing the instrument probe in a reference liquid (standard) or distilled water (depending on the procedure) and pressing ZERO.The instrument should now read T 100.0 (absorbance value of zero).

CatLinc TM User’s Manual

CatLinc TM User’s Manual

The CatLinc™ family of products allows connection between two devices* utilizing CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6 shielded twisted pair cable (STP), foil shielded twisted pair cable (FTP), or unshielded twisted pair cable (UTP). It is strongly recommended that you use shielded twisted pair cable (STP) or foil shielded twisted pair cable (FTP) with your CatLinc product, such as standard, off-the-shelf preterminated CAT5 networking cable. The Transmitter and Receiver units have been designed for easy installation and they are among the smallest in the industry.

The CatLinc VGA allows VGA (or RGBHV) connection between two devices using CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6 twisted pair cable. Connection is made to devices using standard male HD-15 connectors. The CatLinc VGA Transmitter actively buffers and amplifies the source signal, eliminating the need for the interfaces or distribution amplifiers that are often required with VGA signals.

CatLinc VGA can extend a VGA signal up to 91m/300ft over standard CAT5 cable. At typical distances this product will provide excellent image quality for all resolutions. It can be used for longer runs, but the image quality may be reduced. A Distance/Resolution chart (Page 4, Table 1) indicates supported resolutions based on CAT5 cable length. A single screwdriver adjustment at the Receiver allows fine-tuning for best picture detail (see page 3)
