1. The iGPS-BT will need to be charged for two to three hours before initial use.
2. Turn on the iGPS-BT. The status indicator will blink as it searches for a Bluetooth connection.
3. Launch the Bluetooth configuration software on your mobile device. (This should be provided by the manufacturer of your Bluetooth device)
4. Have the Bluetooth configuration software search for any Bluetooth devices present. It should detect the iGPS-BT and list it as an available device (a “Pharos iGPS-BT” icon should be displayed).
5. Select the “Pharos iGPS-BT” device. Depending on your Bluetooth software, this should bring up a screen that will ask for a PIN Code or Security PIN. Enter the following PIN code: IMPORTANT PIN Code: 12345678 (Please memorize this code for future use)
6. After the PIN number is entered, a connection between your mobile device and the iGPS-BT should be established. The blue LED on the iGPS-BT dock will change from blinking to a steady glow.
7. Once a connection is established, check the properties of the iGPS-BT in the Bluetooth configuration software and make a note as to what number COM port is assigned to it. The navigation software that will be used will require this COM port number. Or check the COM port setting for your Pocket PC in the Quick Start Guide.

• GPS receiver must have a direct view to the sky. GPS receiver does not work well indoors.
• If possible, make sure the GPS is stationary when getting the initial satellite position lock. Allow 1-2 minutes at initial start-up for the GPS receiver to acquire a satellite lock for tracking.

Officially announced in January 2007, HTC X7500 Advantage also known as HTC Athena has been made available in February through T-Mobile and Dopod operators. The price of the device starts from 1,200 USD and can reach almost 1,500 USD, depending on the location and the sales package.

Design
At first glance, you will surely notice that this is no ordinary phone or PDA. It doesn’t look like neither of those two, but still it embeds both and even more. When the user combines the two independent parts, the device becomes a miniaturization of a notebook. If you don’t need the detachable QWERTY keyboard you can easily handle the device with your stylus because of the extra-large display. Moreover, if you are by any chance a trekkie (Star Trek fan), then you’ll be thrilled to own the device that has been the well-known multipurpose tool used by Spock. Even if it’s not, it surely looks like, so are you prepared to communicate, scan, search or localize (with) your target ?

Somewhere between a Pocket PC and a notebook, Advantage weighs no more than 359 grams (battery included) and measures exactly 133.5 mm x 98 mm x 16 mm (20 mm with keyboard). The main part of the device is actually a huge display framed in a black polished compound. Useful in both modes, landscape or portrait, Advantage has a few external keys more or less intuitive. This manual describes the installation and use of the UVLAN network switch product. UVLAN is a networking product which has been designed with the goal of joining remote 802.3 networks over a UDP/IP medium. In essence two remote networks using this product simply appear to be local to one another.

This product has been designed with several key features in mind.
Security) Traffic will be secured in three fashions. The UDP packets are encrypted to ensure privacy. This prevents eavesdroppers from snooping on the traffic to read sensitive data. The packets have a message authentication code (MAC) applied to them to ensure authenticity. This prevents attackers from modifying the contents of packets. Finally the system uses monotic increasing counters to prevent replay attacks. The product uses AES-CCM as the cryptographic encrypt+authenticate primitive. AES-CCM is a NIST standard [quote].
Statelessness) The product has been designed with service disruptions in mind. Remote links can be de-activated and re-activate without causing permanent disruption to the product. The product will re-schedule session keys with the remote host and the link will be usable in a matter of a few frames.
Latency) The product uses UDP/IP for the encapsulation to reduce latency of the link as far as possible.
Switching) The product uses switching rules to route packets out to the correct link(s) for a given frame. This lowers the network bandwidth usage. The product learns the routing table on the fly as it sees new frames.

Once installed physically and the configuration has been written the software does not require any further intervention. As far as the network is concerned it is a stateless transparent device. Other machines on the remote side simply “appear” as if they are local.

Trends in router technology advancements are permitting consumers to use their device as a gateway for Internet connectivity, a resource sharing point and a wireless access point. As routing devices become increasingly powerful with superior processors and significant increases in memory, developers are opting to utilise routers for a variety of applications. One router which received immense publicity was the Linksys WRT54g due to its highly manipulative firmware and basic configurable nature. Literature demonstrating the flexibility and ease of use of the Linksys WRT54g for both researchers and hobbyists (Asadoorian & Pesce 2007) is still being publicly released years after the initial product release.

Hackers and security enthusiasts may customise the Linksys WRT54g firmware (Al-Zarouni 2005) dependant on the place and purpose of use. Numerous pre-compiled firmware images are available specifically for the Linksys WRT54g and many other embedded system architectures. Innes (2005) discussed the application of some of the publicly available, pre-compiled software packages for the Linksys WRT54g operating on the OpenWRT firmware. The paper demonstrated how a Small office Home office (SoHo) router may be transformed to undertake various 802.11 wireless monitoring, intrusion detection and network forensic tasks. However, as time progresses the device which once permitted a wide range of software to be on the Linksys WRT54g is slowly becoming obsolete. One significant aspect in which the Linksys WRT54g is now insufficient is in the memory and storage availability which prevents it from being used for various network analysis and forensic activities.

Linksys released numerous versions of the Linksys WRT54g (versions 1 through to 8) with processors ranging from MIPS 125 MHz through to 240 MHz (OpenWRT 2006). However, as the processor performance increased on the high end routers the availability of flash and random access memory (RAM) decreased. Hence system performance was balanced across all the Linksys WRT54g routers. Whilst the device specifications are sound for the router’s requirements any intensive third party software will halt the device and require a manual power cycle. In contrast certain network analysis and forensic software does not only consume excessive resources but also requires a medium on which to store data it collects. One specific setup which is not feasible, is operating a Snort intrusion detection system (Snort 2007) coupled with a database server to log events. As the Linksys router has minimal non-volatile storage availability, the only feasible option is to utilise a remote database server to which the Snort intrusion detection system may connect and store log files.

There are many choices of firmware for the various embedded devices but as an ardent open systems supporter I liked the sound of one with the word ‘Open’ in its title and it promised a tiny platform independent linux OS. The same firmware will run on most MIPS/Broadcom based routers e.g. ASUS, Linksys, Belkin, D-Link, Buffalo etc. The advantage is flexibility in that you can build a system with exactly what you want in it and nothing else, but consequently you get very little ready made. Unlike most other firmware options, its footprint is small enough to get rt2mei up and running without requiring any external memory or disk.

The other main contender is Oleg’s firmware, which is based on the original GPL router firmware with additional features. It is well documented for a Toppy setup and will almost certainly be simpler to setup and provide more features as standard. However I believe it only works on the ASUS WL-500 series routers and does require at least a USB flash drive to run rt2mei.

My home wireless LAN is provided by a Netgear DG384GT Wireless ADSL router. Because this does not support WDS, I was forced to configure the ASUS as a wireless client with routing between its LAN switch 1 and the wireless side rather than the conventional bridged solution. This factor makes this setup a little more complicated. These instructions should still work for any existing wireless router at home, but could be simplified if the ASUS is intended to be your only router or if your existing router supports WDS.
The instructions should also still work in outline for any other OpenWRT supported router but you will have to adjust certain parts for hardware differences.

When I purchased my VGX-XL201 Media Center PC, I fully expected it to arrive preloaded with a myriad of freeware, trialware and Sony-branded software products and I wasn’t wrong. Such is the trend when you buy almost any PC these days, and I don’t doubt that many consumers are very grateful for it. I am not one of those consumers. I know what software I want for any particular job, and invariably it isn’t the software provided by Sony. Also, due to the pace of software development, by the time you receive your PC, most of the freeware software will be out of date, and Sony, like most PC manufacturers these days have a tendency to give you old versions of retail applications like Adobe Photoshop Elements or WinDVD.

In their efforts to make life easier for novice PC users, Sony inadvertently make the process of escaping from the factory installed image difficult, even for competent PC users. They create a hidden partition on the hard disk that contains the factory installed image and provide software to back up that partition to a pair of recordable DVDs. This makes it possible to dispense with the hidden partition and recover the disk space, and also provides the means by which you can extract the essential drivers and utilities that make a clean install possible. What Sony don’t do is give you an OEM operating system CD or any means to install an operating system other than by re-imaging the PC back to it’s factory default settings.

This guide is intended for anyone who, like me, wishes to install the operating system of their choice without the software baggage that comes with the factory installed image. It goes into enough detail that a novice user should be able to follow it, but it is really intended for intermediate to advanced PC users. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you could get yourself into a terrible mess by following this guide and of course it goes without saying that I accept absolutely no responsibility for any damage or inconvenience whatsoever resulting from the use of this guide. It is provided in the hope that it will be useful, but it’s use is entirely at your own risk. The guide will deal specifically with installing the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 operating system on a Sony VAIO VGX-XL201 Media Center PC. However, the concepts described in this guide are likely to be largely relevant to similar operating systems like Windows XP Professional, and media center PCs like the Sony VAIO VGX-XL202. This book is concerned with advanced encoding and decoding of composite video. Composite video was originally designed as monochrome compatible system for broadcasting in which subcarrier based colour information was added to an existing line standard in a way which allowed existing sets to display a monochrome picture. A further criterion was that the addition of colour should not increase the bandwidth of the TV channel. In that respect composite video has to be viewed as an early form of compression. Although designed for transmission, the baseband composite signals could be recorded on videotape. In the case of NTSC and PAL, vision mixing was also possible on composite signals. As a result early colour studios were entirely composite. There was one coder at the camera control unit and one decoder at the viewer’s TV set.

Since the introduction of colour, new processes such as slow motion, standards conversion, DVEs, graphics and so on have come into being. These have in common the fact that they cannot operate upon composite signals. All processes which manipulate the image spatially will render meaningless any subcarrier based colour information. In a composite environment such devices need an input decoder and an output encoder and clearly these need to be of high quality. Television is currently in a state of change with many new transmission formats proposed. Some of these work in components, but if such formats are adopted it will be some time before composite transmission ceases. Other proposals seek to increase the performance of composite signals. In both cases a requirement for quality coding and decoding is clear. Even if a utopian component world came about tomorrow, decoding would still be necessary to view the enormous composite archives which have built up. Whilst the techniques vary, all composite signals have in common the need to include a subcarrier based chroma signal within the luminance band in such a way that it will be substantially invisible on an unmodified monochrome TV set. This is achieved in much the same way in all three systems.

GearShift is a tool to help you work with HD projects in Sony Vegas. Whether you have the latest and greatest PC hardware or you have an older PC that works fine for DV editing but doesn’t have the resources required for HD editing, GearShift can help.

GearShift was developed for several reasons:
1. HD requires a lot more resources to edit than DV. The native M2T files are very demanding on your CPU and can’t be played back in real-time on even the latest CPU’s because of the processing power required to navigate the MPEG data stream. When rendered to a Sony YUV AVI file the CPU utilization is less but the hard drive space is huge and thus hard drive throughput becomes the limiting factor. How does GearShift help you deal with this? By providing a Proxy that is easy on the CPU and hard drive and thus allowing you to edit HD on your existing PC that you are editing DV on today.
2. The MPEG2 Transport Stream files that HDV cameras capture to use long GOP (Group of Pictures). This means that each frame is not a full image as is the case with DV. For example, the MPEG2 GOP for the Sony Z1 and FX1 is made up of a group of 15 frame sequences. Only one frame in the 15 (I-Frame) contains an entire image. The other 14 frames (B-Frames and P-Frames) contain delta and predictive data only. This means that color correcting on these 14 delta frames is not recommended since the frames don’t actually exist (they are composed of the I-Frame and B & P-Frames combined). It is much better to edit in an AVI format known as an intermediary file and GearShift can make these files for you.
3. You might not want to use all the footage you captured so it doesn’t make sense to convert all of your footage to YUV, intermediary, or DV Proxy. GearShift will allow you to convert only the footage you need for you final project saving you valuable time.

In the home or small office building, use HomePlug Ethernet Bridge Adapters to link multiple locations without the need to run Ethernet cable. Combined with a broadband DSL/Cable connection, every room with electrical power outlets will have easy access to high-speed Internet connection.

200Mbps HomePlug AV Ethernet Bridge allows you to connect any device which has an Ethernet port to a Power-line network. In operation, the 200Mbps HomePlug AV Ethernet Bridge is completely transparent, and simply passes data between the Ethernet port and the Powerline network. The Powerline data transfer rate can be reached up to 200Mbps. Any device may be connected to the 200Mbps HomePlug Ethernet Bridge’s Ethernet port, but a Windows PC must be used for configuration.

Setup
Configuration requires the use of Windows PC. Once configured, any device may be connected to the 200Mbps HomePlug AV Ethernet Bridge’s Ethernet port. To perform configuration, follow the procedures list below.
1. Connect a standard LAN cable from the 200Mbps HomePlug AV Ethernet Bridge’s Ethernet port to your PC.
2. Plug the 200Mbps HomePlug AV Ethernet Bridge into a power outlet.
3. Wait a few seconds for startup to be completed, and then check the LEDs
• The Power LED should be ON.
• The HomePlug LED will be ON if other HomePlug devices are detected, otherwise it will be OFF.
• The Ethernet LED should be ON.
4. Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your Windows PC, and wait for it to start, select “Utility” from the autorun screen. If it does not start automatically, locate and run SETUP.EXE.
5. Follow the prompts to install the PLI-2030 utility.
6. Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 is needed for installing PLI-2030 utility. The wizard will check automatically whether the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 was installed on your PC or not. If not, the wizard will pop up a message box. Click OK to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 first
