RipNAS User Manual

RipNAS combines and perfects Audio CD ripping, Network Attached Storage and Media Streaming in one easy to use small (high ‘partner acceptance factor’) box. Audio CDs are ripped to a lossless audio format stored securely through multi-drive mirroring [multi-HDD models only]. Audio files are shared for streaming through the network to a multitude of available Network audio players. Windows Home Server (WHS) is the OS of choice, offering complete home backup for Windows PCs.

The following audio streaming services are built into RipNAS:
• SqueezeCenter – Logitech Duet / Transporter / Boom, etc,
• SMB / CIFS – network shares (Sonos, etc),
• iTunes DAAP Apple – play through iTunes installed on PCs,
• Asset UPnP (DLNA compatible devices) – 100’s of devices

Discs supplied with RipNAS
RipNAS WHS Connector DVD (for Vista & XP): install onto PCs on your network, adds
WHS Connector & backup abilities to your PC. WHS Connector allows a PC to view
RipNAS status and change configuration. This DVD is also used with the USB Flash drive should the need arise to restore RipNAS to factory fresh settings.
RipNAS >> PC Restore CD: restores a failed PC, using a backup held on RipNAS (see Restoring a Complete PC).

Set Audio Encoder CD: 3x CDs to switch audio formats used by RipNAS, without the need of configuring through a PC. Choices are: FLAC (default), Apple Lossless or FLAC & mp3 (high quality Fraunhofer 320kbps mp3 files are written to \\RipNAS\Public\mp3). Insert a ‘Set Audio Encoder to…’ into RipNAS and wait for it to be ejected, subsequent discs ripped will be in the format chosen.
