Notebook PC Software Recovery Partition
Notebook PC Software Recovery CD (Windows® XP™ Home and Professional Editions) The recovery process will restore the operating system, drivers, and utilities installed on your Notebook PC at the factory. There are two recovery possibilities, from a recovery CD or from a hidden partition on your hard disk (HD) drive (see next page). Before using the recovery process, copy your data files (such as Outlook PST files) to a CD-R/RW, a network drive, or an external hard drive and make note of your configuration settings (such as network settings). Procedure on using the recovery process:
Using a recovery CD:
Insert “Recovery CD 1”, restart your Notebook PC, and use boot to CD. Booting to CD: Press [Esc] on bootup and select “ATAPI CD-ROM Drive” and press [Enter]. Or set your optical drive to boot first in BIOS Setup (See BIOS Setup in your User’s Manual).
Select menu item (within 60 seconds):
1. MS-DOS with CD-ROM Support.
This option will automatically execute after 60 seconds if no selection is made. This option is like using a DOS
startup disk and load the CD-ROM driver for DOS and give you a DOS prompt. Several DOS utilities will be
available on drive “A:”.
2. Recover Windows XP _____ to first partition only.
This option will delete only the first partition, allowing you to keep other partitions, and create a new system
partition as drive “C”.
3. Recover Windows XP _____ to entire HD.
This option will delete all partitions from your hard disk drive and create a new system partition as drive “C”.
4. Recover Windows XP _____ to entire HD with 2 partition.
This option will delete all partitions from your hard disk drive and create two new partitions “C” (60%) and “D” (40%)
