This document explains how to use Computrace LoJack for Laptops® to help in the recovery of your Windows laptop in the event of theft or loss. LoJack is a software application available at no cost to University of Pittsburgh students and allows your laptop to be traced in the event that it is ever lost or stolen. To get a single use copy of LoJack for your laptop, please bring your Pitt ID card to the Software Licensing Services office at 105 Bellefield Hall.

Computrace LoJack® for Laptops is a service that tracks, locates, and assists the recovery process in the event that laptops are stolen or lost. You report the loss or theft to local police authorities, contact Computrace, and let the software installed on your computer work behind the scenes to silently and securely send its location to the Computrace Monitoring Center using any Internet connection. The Computrace Recovery Team then tracks your computer’s location and partners with local law enforcement to get your computer back. The Computrace LoJack for Laptops software is tamper-resistant and not easily removed by traditional tools and procedures. The software can only be removed by an authorized user with the correct password. Each license of the Computrace LoJack for Laptops software is unique and can only be installed on one computer.

There are two software packages available from SUMS for the ASUS eeePC/RM Minibook. This guide covers the installation of both.
1.1 SUMS Maths. This is an extensive set of curriculum based maths games. They are proven to be particularly powerful when installed to student devices such as PDAs, PSPs, and now this powerful yet inexpensive laptop. Use them both in class and for informal learning - for example, on the playground wall at breaktime, or on the bus on the way home.
1.2 SUMS Phonics. This is software that supports the synthetic phonics approach recommended by the government’s Letters and Sounds scheme. It provides support for teachers and related pupil games. A PC version is also available. This means that pupils, with parental support, can practise at home what they saw on the whiteboard in class earlier in the day.

SUMS software is designed to be small in file size, so can safely be installed to the eeePC/Minibook’s local memory. It then runs in the inbuilt Firefox browser. Note that there is no need to download plugins or to do any other preparatory work. SUMS runs on the eeePC/Minibook ‘out of the box’.
